The front derailleur cage should be approximately parallel to the chain.
Front derailleur cable adjustment.
Accurate front derailleur indexing is critical to maintaining fast fault free front shifting.
To adjust a shimano front derailleur start by making sure it sits at 1 3 millimeters above the large chain ring.
Use a tape measure or a penny which is 1 5 millimeters to estimate the height.
I show how to install and adjust a front derailleur including removing the old front derailleur.
Front derailleur rotational angle.
To do this you must first shift the front derailleur to the innermost chainring and let the tension out of the front derailleur cable by loosening the small bolt that anchors the cable to the derailleur body.
If it needs adjustment make sure your bike is in its lowest gear so there s not too much tension on the inner wire.
Generally the outer cage of the front derailleur should be aligned to the chain.
Right above the derailleur is a thin cable clamped in place by a bolt or screw.
Check that the front derailleur is parallel to the chainring and there is a gap of around 2mm between the top of the largest chain wheel and the bottom of the outer plate of the front derailleur.
Setting the inner stop.
If the derailleur cage is rotated too far from this position it will shift poorly.
I also install a new shifter cable.
If the derailleur mount is a clamp type its rotation can be changed.
Disconnect the cable attached to the derailleur at the anchor bolt.
As with all indexed gears good performance is down to properly adjusted front derailleur limits and zeroing in on the right cable tension.
Be sure to read this dealer s manual thoroughly before use and follow it for correct use.
Loosen the cable bolt and tighten the derailleur cable.
This is a road bike bu.
The derailleur is usually attached to the bike frame the metal skeleton of the bike.
